The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting on Thursday in Colorado Springs, Colo. One woman, whose name has not been released, died in the attack.

Another woman, Christina Mayer, 29, was listed in critical condition at Medical Center of the Rockies, a hospital spokeswoman said.

A spokesperson for the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office said late Thursday that it would take time to establish why the women were targeted and that the situation was not considered a targeted attack.

“The investigation at this time will determine whether this was a domestic incident,” spokeswoman Barbara Miller said in a statement.

The victim identified as Christina Mayer was shot multiple times in the chest and legs and was transported to the hospital, where she later died. Authorities found Mayer’s boyfriend, Tom Perez, 36, shot to death in a car in the shooting. Police seized a gun believed to be linked to the shooting from Perez.

Authorities apprehended the suspect in connection with the shooting around 6:40 p.m. local time.

Both men are residents of Colorado Springs.
