Actor Jake Wood has led two turnaround efforts at his first two companies. So what is his secret to entrepreneurship? “Sincerity and emotional intelligence.”
His first company, A You Live Life, the guidebook on helping others live the lifestyle they want, grew from 200,000 subscribers to 2 million in 15 years. But it ran into a problem when he hired a sales team that didn’t know what they were selling, he said.
“So I had to go out and buy them,” he said.
So in 2016, Wood started BusyLife, a seven-day program that helps low-income women overcome the physical and emotional obstacles of childbirth. Now he has about 2,200 volunteers working at 70 locations around the country, bringing in $2 million in annual revenue and growing.
