Two charged with murder after death of 25-year-old in Toronto house party

Toronto police arrested and charged two people in connection with the fatal shooting of a 25-year-old man early Wednesday morning.

The victim, Peter Banks, was shot in the head at the Cornwall Courts housing complex in the Brampton area, outside a house party, around 1:15 a.m. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition, but died later that morning.

According to police, 30-year-old Kareem Guy and 28-year-old Rodney Edwards were arrested and charged with first-degree murder in connection with the killing. Banks’ body was found outside of a closed entranceway to the house party.

Banks was attending the event with friends, and was leaving the event when he was killed. Police said that the shooting was not a gang-related incident. The two people charged have an extensive criminal history.

Edwards was previously convicted of trafficking drugs from 2007 to 2012. Guy is a convicted drug trafficker from 2003 to 2007.
