Shooting at Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson Airport: One Man Killed, Another Injured

Georgia officials believe the fatal shootout that erupted at Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport on Sunday was “accidental discharge.”

Hearen Dickerson, director of the Atlanta Police Department, told reporters “it appears” that a gun that an unidentified male employee of Delta Air Lines was carrying “travelled to a wrong location and went off.”

Video posted on Twitter showed blood on the floor near a pool of blood in the concourse.

Witnesses said they heard gunshots and ran for cover.

Kellie Boylan said she was on a Delta flight about to taxied out of the Delta terminal at about 7 p.m. local time. Boylan said a flight attendant told passengers they were “going to go someplace safe, and everyone was stunned.”

“I was pretty freaking out,” she said.

Dyscardis, whose photo of the scene was posted on Twitter, said she saw someone with a “shooter vest” running “through the old Delta Delta terminal.”

Sunday night, a Delta spokesman said the airline was aware of the incident and is working with police. A Metrorail spokesperson told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution the agency is aware of the incident and will be contacting authorities as needed.
