Playboy biographer and former ‘Good Times’ star to develop ABC drama ‘Queens’

Playboy biographer Peter Hamby and writer-actress Rachel Melvin are behind an upcoming ABC drama called “Queens.”

Hamby and Melvin are the co-creators of the series about a group of women who are old friends from Queens. It’s a situation they experienced during their life together.

In one scene, the women decide it’s time to clean their town together and in other scenes, they look back fondly on a time when their lives changed.

Melvin appears on the cast alongside Vanessa Williams, whose first big role was in 1980s sitcom “Good Times.” She went on to star in TV series and films, from “Six Feet Under” to “Ugly Betty.”

She is returning to television after a decades-long hiatus.

Meanwhile, Barbara Fialho is serving as showrunner.

“Queens” begins production soon in New York City.

The show is expected to air in 2020 on ABC.
